Kasabian ‘playing secret set at this year’s Glastonbury festival’

Kasabian are said to be playing a “secret set” at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

The band was hit by heartache in 2020 when its then lead singer Tom Meighan, 43, stepped down by “mutual consent” a day before he appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court 7 July to face a charge of assault against his partner Vicki Ager – with the rocker pleading guilty to one count of assault by beating before he was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work.

With the band’s guitarist Serge Pizzorno, 43, now fronting the group, a source said they have been lined up to play a gig at Worthy Farm, Somerset, this weekend – a decade after they took to the stage at the festival with Tom as singer.

A source told The Sun about how the band has been booked to play the Woodsies site of the three-day at 6pm on Saturday (29.06.24): “Glastonbury is always a big deal but this year Kasabian really can’t wait, especially as it’s a decade since they were last there.

“They loved the idea of being a secret act and jumped at the idea when it was suggested by Glasto boss Emily Eavis.

“The set will be an hour long. Fans are going to go absolutely nuts when they realise Kasabian are playing and Glasto are ready for it to be absolutely mobbed.”

After forming in 1997, it took until 2004 for Kasabian to make it big, thanks to a string of hits on their debut album.

They have gone on to rack up six No1 albums, with all but their first hitting the top spot.

Kasabian said in a statement at the time of Tom’s departure: “Tom Meighan is stepping down from Kasabian by mutual consent.

“Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.

“We will not be commenting further.”
