Kara Tointon has ‘great’ long-term memory

Kara Tointon has a "really great" long-term memory.
The 33-year-old actress has opened up on numerous occasions about her tough battle with dyslexia – a common learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling – but, although she struggles with literacy, she has admitted her ability to remember things from when she was a child is out of this world.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Tuesday (15.11.16), she said: "I also have a really great long-term memory, so I remember things from years ago. When it’s in, it’s in."
And, although her job on screen and stage requires her to learn pages of lines, the former ‘EastEnders’ star has developed her own techniques to help her out.
She explained: "I think you go about your life and you deal with things how you deal with them. I didn’t realise I did anything different to anyone else until I looked into it while doing the documentary, and it does take me a little time.
"It’s not a problem. I have little techniques and mechanisms. I have these special glasses that are tinted green and it means I can read with a lovely flow, whereas before it was a bit stagnated. I don’t really have any problems."
Kara had a highly successful career on the BBC One soap but decided to walk away from her role as Dawn Swann in 2009 following four years on screen.
She initially thought her career had dried up after she failed to secure any big parts shortly after, but was thrown a lifeline in 2010 when she won ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
She said: "Doing ‘Strictly…’ was me saying ‘I’m going to do something else, but why not Salsa my way to it. I got back to where I wanted to be. I’m very fortunate."
