Kanye West isn’t "mentally ready" to leave hospital yet.
The 39-year-old rapper was admitted to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles over a week ago after he reportedly suffered a "psychotic breakdown" and, although he’s showing signs of improvement, doctors are concerned he’ll push himself back over the edge again if they discharge him before he’s ready.
A source told E! News: "Kanye isn’t ready to go back home … If he gets released and isn’t mentally ready he will go back to his old ways and push himself over the limit again. He needs to keep up with counselling even though he has an intense work schedule. He is just really drained and weak. He isn’t himself."
And the ‘Bound 2’ hitmaker will no doubt get through the ordeal as quickly as possible, with his wife Kim Kardashian West, with whom he has three-year-old daughter North and 11-month-old son Saint, at his bedside keeping a watchful eye over him.
The insider explained: "Kim is being patient and staying by his side. They both have been through a lot but are staying strong as a married couple and helping one another get back up."
The couple – who got married in 2014 – haven’t had the easiest time over the last few months as Kim, 36, was left fearing for her life in October after she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris.
Despite the string of bad luck they’ve had over the past year, the pair know that they’ll come out of this stronger than ever.
The source said: "They know in the end this will bring them closer. Their love has not been affected during this hard time, but it has been tested to see if they can get through it."
Kanye sparked fears for his mental health last week when he unexpectedly cancelled his show at The Forum in Los Angeles just a few hours before he was expected to go on stage.
He has since pulled the plug on the the remaining 21 dates of his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour following his admission to hospital.
