Justin Bieber’s pastor has been "encouraging" his reconciliation with Selena Gomez.
The ‘Never Say Never’ hitmaker and his former flame have fuelled speculation they are an item again after getting close recently, and his confidante Carl Lentz, senior pastor at Hillsong Church, has been inspiring the pair to become friends again "at least".
A source close to the pop star said: "He has been going to church every week and spends all his time with his pastor Carl Lentz – Carl has been encouraging ‘reconciliation’ between the two – to heal their friendship at least.
"Justin basically has been asking her for her forgiveness this whole time.
The 23-year-old singer is said to consider the ‘Fetish’ hitmaker – who he dated on and off between 2011 and 2015 – his "one true love", and the pair reconnected after he sent her flowers while she was recovering from a kidney transplant operation.
The source added to The Sun Online: "He’s really cleaned up his life majorly, they consider each other their one true love.
"They started texting when she was in hospital for her kidney transplant.
"Justin only found out through the press and he was hurt that she hadn’t told him directly. He sent her flowers during her recovery."
Justin and Selena, 25, are said to have been attending church together after reconnecting.
A source recently said: "He hopes to regain her trust so they can get back together. They have so much to catch up on. They dealt with things separately this year that made them different people. It wouldn’t be surprising if they got back together … It seems their relationship now is very different. Justin is certainly a much better person. He would be a better boyfriend, too."
