Julian Ovenden doesn’t want to be ‘absent father’

Julian Ovenden is concerned he’ll end up an "absent father."

The ‘Downton Abbey’ star – who is known for playing handsome ladies’ man Charles Blake in the period drama – may have a busy globe-trotting career but he’s adamant he won’t let it get in the way of raising his two children Johnny, six, and Audrey, four, whom he has with his wife Kate.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "It [going away for work] gets harder the older they get because when they were younger, I was quite thankful for the sleep and the quiet and now schools are so full on now. I’m away for two days and so much has happened.

"Obviously, you want to be with your kids when they’re this age, you really want to enjoy it as much as you can. I don’t want to be an absent parent."

But, although he likes being a hands-on dad, the 39-year-old actor doesn’t want to add any more little ones to his brood.

He explained: "I don’t think there are any plans to have any more because our cups are very full at the moment. I’ve got a dog – he was the first born – so I’ve already got three kids."

Meanwhile, Julian may be keen to spend as much times as possible with his youngsters but, at the moment, he’s busy promoting his forthcoming album ‘Be My Love’.

He said of his upcoming release: "Making an album like this has been something I’ve always wanted to do. I have to pinch myself because I can’t believe I’ve had the opportunity to do it with these musicians, these songs and music that I’m probably the most passionate about."

‘Be My Love’ is set for release on April 22 on East West.
