Josie Gibson is "absolutely gutted" she is the first contestant to be eliminated from ‘The Jump’.
The 32-year-old former ‘Big Brother’ winner was sent home in Sunday (06.02.17) night’s episode – the first of the new series – after she refused to throw herself down the jump part of the Channel 4 show.
Taking to her Twitter account after she got the boot, she said: "I’m absolutely gutted but I’ve had the time of my life thank you @Channel4 And the amazing Jump family. I’ve had the time of my life.
"I’m sorry to anyone I let down I just needed more time to get confident on the Jump. Time was of the essence sorry (sic)"
Josie was up against Emma Parker-Bowles – the niece of Duchess Camilla – in the jump-off after she lost out on the slalom race to Jade Jones but when she was faced with going down the slope first, the Bristol-born star was riddled with nerves and decided to pull out of the competition.
The commentator explained the delay to viewers: "She really struggled with the jump in training, and she’s never jumped off this one before. When you’re sat up there, nerves can get to you and it seems to have happened here."
Despite having been cleared to jump from that height during training, she had never leapt off the purpose built ski jump on Jump Mountain in Austria before.
As a result, all Emma has to do was land her jump successfully to remain in the competition but she excelled herself and managed to fly 11 metres to knock Josie out of the contest.
Speaking about knocking Josie out of the show, Emma said: "She’s my homie, so I’m really sad it’s happened this way."
This was just the first show since the celebrities were put through their paces in training by a team of world class experts and trainers, and the competition is set to get even more fierce as they all have their eyes on the prize – the coveted Cowbell Trophy – which is currently in the hands of ‘The Jump’ 2016 champion, rugby ace Ben Cohen.
‘The Jump’ will continue on Channel 4 on Sunday (12.02.17).
