Jordin Sparks not used to being called ‘mom’

Jordin Sparks is still getting used to being called a mother.
The 28-year-old singer and her husband Dana Isaiah welcomed their son Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr. – who will be known as DJ – into the world just one week ago, and has said it feels "trippy" to be referred to as a mother.
She said: "It’s still really trippy to say the word ‘mom,’ referring to myself."
The ‘No Air’ hitmaker – who rose to fame after being crowned the winner of ‘American Idol’ in 2007 – couldn’t be happier in her new role though, as she feels she’s "lived a lot" and is ready to share her life with "someone else" now.
Speaking to People magazine, she added: "My brother asked me, ‘Are you ready for your life to not be about you anymore?’ I stopped for a second and thought, ‘I have lived a lot of life: In the last 28 years, in the past 11 [since ‘American Idol’], I have lived a lot and seen a lot.’ I am okay about it being about someone else from now on; I am good with that."
Jordin’s parenting comments come after she previously said she was left in awe of the "incredibly miraculous, beautiful moment" that occurred when she gave birth to her son.
She said: "It was just this incredibly miraculous, beautiful moment that I don’t know could ever be duplicated or replicated. Like, you see it in movies, how emotional people get, but until you are actually sitting there, it’s beyond anything I’ve ever felt in my life."
However, the birth wasn’t without complications and Jordin revealed how her son managed to get the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
She shared: "The baby’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice. I didn’t see it because I was facing the other way. He [Dana Sr., her husband] said it almost looked like a scarf – it was wrapped around his neck and body.
"Simone [the midwife] got the umbilical cord off really quickly, then the baby was good to go. He took his first breath and then [Dana Sr.] handed him to me."
