Johnny Depp’s family is desperate for him to reconcile with Vanessa Paradis.
The ‘Mortdecai’ actor has remained "best friends" with his former partner – who wrote an open letter supporting the 53-year-old star after his estranged wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence – and those close to him hope he will rekindle their relationship once his legal dispute with the ‘Magic Mike XXL’ star is over.
Speaking about the former couple, Heather Rassel – who was previously married to Johnny’s nephew Billy and has stayed close to the family since – said: "Johnny and Vanessa are best friends, even now.
"Vanessa has been there for him through the entire thing. After everything that’s happened she will always stand by him.
"I’m rooting for them to get back together. We all are."
Johnny and Vanessa – who have children Lily-Rose, 17, and Jack, 14, together – split in 2012 after 14 years together, and while the actor married Amber after a relatively short period of dating, less than three years, Heather insists getting wed was never an issue for the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star and the French singer.
She said: "Johnny was more about being partners with someone than putting something on paper.
"He and Vanessa never even had the conversation about getting married."
Despite the bad blood between them, Heather thinks Johnny will give Amber a "fair" divorce settlement.
She told Grazia magazine: "I think Johnny will settle with her out of court. Not because he’s guilty of anything, but because it will be easier.
"He knows she is entitled to compensation. He is very fair and will accept that."
