John Torode wrote a letter to Lisa Faulkner to ask her out.
The 48-year-old actress – who married John, 54, in October – has revealed the TV chef adopted an old-fashioned approach when he asked her out on a date five years ago, penning a sweet letter to his future wife.
She shared: "I was surprised.
"I knew we’d had a couple of nice times where we met, chatted, had fun and talked a lot. So we were friends, and it didn’t come out of the blue, but I thought it was a very gentlemanly thing to do, a letter."
Lisa also revealed the loved-up duo are enjoying married life – even though they’ve spent nearly half of their marriage in lockdown.
She told Radio Times magazine: "It’s funny that nearly half of our marriage has been in lockdown! It’s a good job I like him!
"I have to say, the novelty of calling him my husband hasn’t worn off in any way. Sometimes he will say, ‘You’re my wife’, and I think, ‘Oh, that’s so exciting.’ "
John proposed to Lisa on Christmas Day in 2018, and she revealed the news to her fans a week into 2019.
She wrote on Instagram: "My gorgeous John completely surprised me on Christmas Day and asked me to marry him! After waiting to tell our family when we got home we then had a few days just grinning at each other!! Im so very happy to share our lovely news with you. Happy 2019 it’s going to be quite a year and I’m going to embrace every minute of it. All you need is love. Love is all you need. (sic)"
The couple will star in a new series of ‘John & Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen’ on ITV from June 6.
The show – which was filmed at the Television Centre studios in London during lockdown – will give viewers tips on how to cook some simple, yet tasty, dishes.
