John Rzeznik slams bands who don’t play their hits

Goo Goo Dolls’ John Rzeznik thinks artists who don’t play there hits are "arrogant arseholes".
The 50-year-old rocker – whose band scored a smash hit with 1998’s ‘Iris’ – believes that musicians have a duty to their fans to play their most popular records.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, John said: "You should always play them [the hits]. I just think it would be really, really arrogant and look really bad.
"I’ve never understood bands that won’t play the big hit, you look like an arrogant arsehole.
"There’s one guy I just wanted to grab him and go ‘That’s why people are coming to see you play, that’s what bought you your house in the Hollywood Hills. What the f*** is wrong with you.’"
Although he conceded not everybody works in the same way, he insisted he wasn’t prepared to be that pompous.
He added: "Whatever, everybody’s different. It doesn’t work for me, I’m not a pretentious artist."
Meanwhile, John is really happy that the band – also including bassist Robby Takac – is still a going strong 30 years after their 1987 self-titled debut LP.
He said: "I think it’s pretty amazing that we can still go out and make a living doing what we’re doing. I think that’s pretty incredible. We’re getting along better now probably than we did in 1987. It’s a good feeling. Unfortunately there’s no retirement plan. No pension plan. The world just tells you to get lost."
Goo Goo Dolls latest record ‘Boxes’ is out now.
