John Legend says fatherhood has inspired him to write "better" music.
The ‘All of Me’ hitmaker – who welcomed daughter Luna into the world seven months – believes becoming a dad has changed his "perspective" on the world.
He said: "I feel good about it. The thing is, you can’t believe the artists when they tell you it’s their best work, because every artist thinks their current album is their best album, because they just spent all this time working on it. But a lot of my friends and people around me really feel like we put something really special into this album, and I’m just excited for people to finally hear it.
"I think [what’s different about it is] just growing up. Having been married for a few years, and having a baby, and all those other things, I think it just informs your perspective a bit and it makes you look at the world a little bit differently. It helped me write songs, and be inspired to write better music, I think."
The 37-year-old singer – who is married to model Chrissy Teigen – is looking forward to the couple’s first Christmas with their daughter Luna.
He told Good Morning America: "Christmas with Luna is going to be really exciting. It’s the first time at our new house, we’ve never had our own Christmas at home. We usually travel somewhere, go to a family member’s house and we go on vacation. This is our first time actually having a tree at home, in our new place. And we have a new baby. It’s pretty exciting."
Meanwhile, John previously revealed he wrote a song about Chrissy’s Twitter trolls.
Speaking about track ‘Overload’, he shared: "I wasn’t really complaining about it in the song. I was just like, ‘Let’s embrace it and live our lives and love each other to the fullest.’ But it’s also about, ‘Let that cell phone ring, let that blue bird sing.’ Obviously, the ‘blue bird’ being Twitter. It’s basically saying there’s all these other voices that are going to be out there, there are all these other people watching, but we’re going to do what we’re going to do regardless."
