Jodie Whittaker wanted to be a pop star

‘Doctor Who’ star Jodie Whittaker didn’t watch the sci-fi show as a kid because she was too busy dreaming about being a pop star.
The 36-year-old actress became the first woman to take on the iconic part when she appeared in her debut series as the Thirteenth Doctor in 2018 but she admits her ambition as a teenager growing up in Yorkshire was to become a famous musician.
Speaking in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, she said: "We had a school year book and the other students said I was the most likely to be famous. I think I said I’d be a pop star. I think it was because I was completely obsessed with being the centre of attention. I didn’t watch ‘Doctor Who’ as a kid. I was too busy thinking I was going to be a pop star."
Before becoming the Time Lord, Jodie had a number of roles in acclaimed shows such as ‘Broadchurch’, ‘Trust Me’ and ‘The Smoke’.
Although she’s very busy shooting the new series of ‘Doctor Who’ this year , Jodie is still keen to take on other roles and she would love to land a cameo in Channel 4 comedy ‘Derry Girls’ – which is written by Lisa McGee and focuses on a group of teenage friends growing up in Northern in the 1990s.
However, the actress would have to master a Northern Irish accent if she were to get cast in the programme.
She said: "I do a terrible Irish accent, so I’d need to work on that!"
Meanwhile, the next series of ‘Doctor Who’ is set to welcome back familiar villains The Judoon.
The rhino-headed intergalactic police force first made an appearance more than 12 years ago opposite the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and his companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) in 2007’s ‘Smith and Jones’.
And when the Thirteenth Doctor returns to screens next year, she will come face-to-face with the brutes once again as they make their long-awaited comeback to the popular BBC sci-fi show.
The Judoon will meet The Doctor in present-day Gloucester, but as of the time of writing, all other details of their episode are being kept under wraps.
The series will also see the return of the Thirteenth Doctor’s companions Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan, played by Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill respectively.
