Jodie Whittaker to star in Three Wise Women

Jodie Whittaker is to become one of the Three Wise Women for a new radio music show.
The 35-year-old actress – who will become the first female incarnation of The Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’ earlier this year – is poised to break another gender barrier by appearing in an amended version of the Bible’s story of Jesus’ birth by starring in ‘Three Wise Women’.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: "I’m over the moon to be asked to be part of this."
The show will air on BBC 6 Music on Christmas Eve (24.12.17) and will also see singer Beth Ditto and actress Sharon Horgan playing music that has inspired them.
Meanwhile, Jodie is poised to make her much-anticipated debut as the Doctor in this year’s special on Christmas Day (25.12.17).
And the programme’s former showrunner Russell T. Davies is confident she will be a great success as the first woman in the role.
Russell’s confidence is based on the fact that he keeps meeting fans who are thrilled with the decision to replace Peter Capaldi with the actress.
Speaking earlier this year, Russell explained: "It’s so exciting! I am on a book tour for this ‘Doctor Who’ book, so the other night there were 200 fans with no doubts about it. I am really tired of the objections. It’s outrageous to me, you meet these fans and they are very very happy that this is happening.
"Maybe 10 people online with different aliases are spouting saying you’ve ruining the programme and it’s all that gets reported."
