Jimmy Krankie nearly landed Hollyoaks role

Jimmy Krankie came close to joining ‘Hollyoaks’.
Amy Conachan, who plays Courtney Campbell in the Channel 4 soap, has revealed one half of comedy duo The Krankies – made of Janette Tough (Jimmy) and her husband Ian (Ian Krankie) – came close to stepping foot in the Chester village as her on-screen grandmother.
She said: "I did know it was a possibility. And it would have been pretty amazing.
"I think a lot more Scottish fans would have tuned in if Jimmy Krankie was in the show."
However, show bosses eventually cast Jenny Lee as her relative, Granny Campbell, who Amy loves acting alongside.
She said: "I grew up watching her in panto and then suddenly she’d be playing my gran – it would be hard to get my head around that.
"But we got the lovely Jenny who is amazing."
Amy – who was born with a condition that means her legs don’t function – has been given a nod in the Best Actress category for the upcoming British Soap Awards, and admits she will be a "nervous wreck" on night, because she still gets star-struck.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun newspaper, she added: "It was an amazing night last year meeting people you’ve been watching on TV since you were young.
"I met Lacey Turner who I’d been watching on ‘EastEnders’ for years and I think she’s amazing.
"It’s just really strange for me to see people standing around who you’re used to seeing in magazines.
"That sounds weird because I’m on a television show myself but it’s hard to get your head around.
"I’m really looking forward to the night but I’ll be a nervous wreck probably."
While Jimmy missed out on a role in ‘Hollyoaks’, The Krankies recently made a guest appearance in a 2014 episode of ITV comedy Benidorm’s sixth series.
