Jimmy Kimmel "forgot" to tell his parents he is to host the 2017 Academy Awards.
The 49-year-old star announced on his talk show earlier this week that he and wife Molly McNearney are expecting their second child together and also revealed he will front the prestigious Oscars ceremony on February 26, but he has now admitted his mother and father only found out his professional good news online after his public revelation.
He admitted to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "I forgot to tell my parents, and then they found out online.
"So, that’s probably the best feedback I got."
When announcing his double good news earlier this week, Jimmy joked he’d achieved two things he never expected possible when he was a teenager.
He said: "My wife is hosting a baby inside her body. So that’s what’s coming.
"So, there’s a lot of exciting stuff going on. Congratulations to me. I’m hosting the Oscars and I had sex. Two things as a teenage boy I never thought would be possible."
Jimmy – who has two-year-old daughter Jane with Molly and two other children, Kevin and Katherine, from his first marriage to Gina Maddy – admitted the pair aren’t going to find out the sex of their unborn baby so are trying to think of some neutral names, but his suggestions have been unusual.
He added: "We got the ultrasound – which is weird because it’s like you’re already spying on the baby – but we asked the technician not to tell us whether we’re having a boy or a girl. Our plan is to let the child decide for itself.
"We want that to be a surprise, but I have been trying to think of names that would work for a boy or girl.
"So far, I’ve come up with two – number one Dyson after the vacuum or Jelatin with a J. No? That’s exactly what my wife said."
