Another member of the infamous 27 club, Jimi Hendrix choked on his own vomit and died of asphyxia at the young age.
One of the most influential guitarists of all-time, Hendrix spent much of his last day with his girlfriend Monika Dannemann who found the rock star unresponsive in her apartment in Notting Hill, London.
He was pronounced dead by doctor’s at St Mary Abbot’s Hospital on September 18, 1970 and the post-mortem examination found he choked his own vomit.
The examination also found he was intoxicated with barbiturates – a drug that acts as a central nervous system depressant and can produce a wild spectrum of effects.
Although not reported as a suicide, Dannemann stated that Hendrix had taken nine of her prescribed Vesparax sleeping times, 18 times the recommended dosage.
