Jeremy Kyle brought Kate Garraway’s children to stay with their grandparents.
Kate’s husband Derek Draper has been in intensive care since March when he first contracted Covid-19 and Kate revealed TV star Jeremy offered his services so that her kids Billy and Darcey could safely go and stay with Derek’s parents.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, Kate said: "My children for the first time are staying away from home. They’ve gone to stay with Derek’s mum and dad. They’ve been shielding since the beginning of March because they both feel vulnerable so this is a very big deal to have the children stay.
"One of the things we did was plan over several weeks what to do. They isolated the days before they needed to travel. I washed and packed clothes and sealed them.
"They travelled up not with me, because they’ve not even had contact with Derek’s sisters, so I didn’t want to be an extra person coming into their lives.
"So thanks to Jeremy Kyle they travelled up because he said ‘my driver has been isolating and keeping the car very clean so I’ll take the children up’."
Meanwhile, Kate, 53, recently revealed she is "desperate" to see Derek, 52, make progress in his recovery from coronavirus.
Kate – who has been married to Derek since 2005 – shared last month: "I did go and see Derek yesterday, it was quite a tough visit yesterday. He’s had a tough couple of weeks and it’s just frustrating."
Derek emerged from a coma in July and is now coronavirus-free, but he remains seriously ill in intensive care. And Kate hoped she’d be able to see a bigger improvement in his condition by now.
She explained: "I’m desperate for a step forward, I think.
"It’s always lovely to see him and it’s wonderful to have the chance to do that."
Kate was also reassured by doctors that she needn’t worry too much about Derek’s progress over recent weeks.
She said: "What the doctor said to me is, ‘Sometimes Kate, a day when nothing has gone backwards and nothing has gone wrong is a positive day.’ "
