Jennie McAlpine’s tearoom is battling debts close to £500,000.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star’s comfort-food diner Annie’s, which is based in Manchester, is run by Fifth Floor Ltd, which is struggling with debts of £428,658, according to accounts for 2017 filed to Companies House, which is up from £384,771 in 2016 and £376,991 in 2015.
A source told MailOnline: "Jennie and Chris are hoping to trade their way back into profit but the margins are tight in the restaurant world and it is hard-going.
"It has always been the plan to open more than one restaurant but just getting this one firing on all cylinders financially is proving tough."
Jennie opened the eatery with her husband Chris Farr – who she has three-year-old son Albert with – in 2012, and she enjoys heading to the tearoom to chat to customers.
She previously said: "’Corrie’ is obviously my main day job and my priority, which I just love and I can’t imagine my life without it.
"But I also love meeting the customers here and finding out what has happened to them since the last time I saw them. That’s the best bit."
Jennie is currently expecting her second child with Chris after revealing the news in April – but she had to clarify she was in fact expecting and not her cat after an unfortunate typo.
She wrote: "We’ve got a bit of news. Pur baby boy is going to be a big brother later this year. We can’t wait to meet you precious one x (sic)"
After writing "pur" instead of "our" some of Jennie’s fans thought she was referencing her feline friend, but the cobbles stalwart has since confirmed she is in fact pregnant.
She wrote: "Thanks for all your lovely messages. Obviously my baby brain is in full force again. Our baby boy. Not pur. Sorry to people who got confused it was about the cat x (sic)"
