Jennie McApline says ‘Coronation Street’ viewers have been approaching her in the street to warn her about cobbles character Jade Rowan.
The 35-year-old actress – who plays Fiz Stape on the cobbles – admitted fans are really getting into the current plot involving the evil nanny, and many of them are convinced that something isn’t right about Lottie Henshall’s character.
She said: "People keep coming up to me in the street and saying, ‘You’ve got to watch her, she’s after your Tyrone!’
"’Ooh, there’s something not right about Jade!’ "
While the soap star admitted her alter-ego doesn’t see any issue with Jade – who has been helping care for Hope (Isabella Flanagan) – Tyrone’s grandmother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) doesn’t trust her "at all".
Jennie added: "Evelyn does not like Jade at all, she says there is something funny about her. But Fiz sees nothing funny about Jade, she just sees this amazing girl who her daughter responds to.
"Hope is so much better when she is around Jade and that is all Fiz wants."
Jade and Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) have also shared some scenes together, and Jennie admitted Fiz wouldn’t react well given her fiance’s "form" when it comes to being unfaithful.
She said: "If Fiz saw Jade muscling in, I am not sure she would be too happy but Tyrone has got form!
"Everytime Fiz goes away, he does tend to sleep with somebody. To be fair, there was only [Gemma Winter], but yes, I am bringing that up again!"
She returned to the ‘Corrie’ set over summer after taking maternity leave to have daughter Hilda, now 12 months, but she feared she wouldn’t be able to act anymore after being away from the ITV soap.
Jennie – who also has four-year-old son Albert with her husband Chris Farr – said: "I was so scared to come back, I won’t lie.
"I didn’t know if I’d still be able to do it, almost like coming back to school after the summer holidays, and you question whether you can still write, but it’s just like riding a bike, so we’re alright."
