Jenna Coleman: Female Doctor Who is ‘genius’

Jenna Coleman thinks Jodie Whittaker’s casting in ‘Doctor Who’ is "genius."
The 31-year-old actress portrayed companion Clara Oswald in the sci-fi series from 2012 until 2015 and, although she’s no longer involved in the show, she "loves" the fact that bosses have decided to make history by choosing a female to play the Time Lord.
Speaking at a Television Critics Association panel in the US, according to the Metro newspaper, Jenna said of the new plans: "Oh I love it. I think it is genius. She’s a brilliant actress. It’s very exciting times. She’s going to be a fantastic Doctor."
But not everyone agrees with Jenna – who will make an appearance in the festive special this year when the time traveller regenerates – as some fans are struggling to get their heads around the idea of a woman taking over the keys to the TARDIS.
However, Jodie – who is known for her role in ‘Broadchurch’ – shouldn’t have a problem settling in, as Peter Capaldi has promised to give her all the help she needs.
He said recently: "David Tennant and Matt Smith have been fabulous to me, because some days things can become overpowering and who can I talk to, and those guys do talk to me. I hope I can do that with Jodie. I am always here to talk her through the madness."
The 59-year-old actor has portrayed the Time Lord in the sci-fi series for the past four years, and is thrilled that Jodie has been chosen as his successor following his decision to walk away from the programme in order to spread his wings in another genre.
He explained: Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker’s work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part. She’s going to be a fantastic Doctor."
