Jason Merrells doesn’t want to return to ‘Emmerdale’.
The 47-year-old actor – who was known for playing bad boy Declan Macey in the soap for four years – turned his back on the ITV show two years ago and doesn’t yet regret his decision because it’s allowed him to spread his wings.
He said: "I left ‘Emmerdale’ and got on a plane to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean to film ‘Death in Paradise’. No one is ever unhappy about a gig on that show.
"Then I did ‘Safe House’ with Christopher Eccleston, and went into the theatre to perform in ‘Twelve Angry Men’.
"I’m lucky because I’ve had varied and interesting jobs which is exactly what I was after."
However, the handsome actor – who is now starring in theatre – does miss the hustle and bustle of the soap set.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, he explained: "I think we did everything we could with Declan. I miss the speed of the show and the buzz you get from knocking it out the park every day. But I don’t think there’s any unfinished business for Declan. Well, not at the moment."
