Jamie Redknapp was left confused when he was inundated with messages asking him if he was a tree – because he hadn’t heard of ‘The Masked Singer’.
The former footballer was rumoured to be Tree on new ITV singing show, on which celebrities wear costumes to perform in disguise before eventually being unmasked, but he has confirmed he has not taken part in the programme.
He said: "No, it’s not me. I didn’t even know what it was. I kept getting messages saying, ‘Are you a tree?’
"And I’m like, ‘Yeah if you want me to say that,’ but no, I’m not a tree, unfortunately.
"Is it a footballer? I will try to find out for you, but it’s not me."
Jamie admitted if he was to appear on a TV singing show he would be spitting bars rather than belting out a melody.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he added: "I’m more of a rapper."
‘The Masked Singer’ fans have also speculated that retired footballer Peter Crouch could be Tree, but he has denied such rumours.
He recently tweeted: "I can confirm I am not a singing tree".
Several ‘The Masked Singer’ fans were left shocked when Justin Hawkins became the latest celebrity to be unveiled on the show last Saturday night (11.01.20).
The Darkness frontman – who was dressed as Chameleon – was forced to reveal who he was after being booted out of the ITV competition.
Asked by host Joel Dommett why he wanted to take part in the competition, he said: "I did it because I wanted to show you guys I’m still alive."
With the celebrity panel of Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Ken Jeong guessing it could be boxer Anthony Joshua, diver Tom Daley or dancer Curtis Pritchard, Justin admitted: "I was really flattered by the athlete guesses."
