James Wan hails Michael Chaves as ‘the perfect fit for next Conjuring movie’

James Wan says Michael Chaves is the "perfect fit to direct the next ‘Conjuring’ film".
The 41-year-old filmmaker was responsible for helming the first two movies in the franchise, but James has stepped aside for ‘The Conjuring 3’ and Michael will instead assume the responsibility.
Speaking about the decision to The Hollywood Reporter, James – who will serve as a producer on the upcoming movie – explained: "While working closely with Chaves on ‘The Curse of La Llorona’, I got to know him as a filmmaker.
"Chaves’ ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares make him a perfect fit to direct the next ‘Conjuring’ film."
Of his own role with the franchise, James added: "I’m excited to be back as producer and continue with Vera [Farmiga] and Patrick [Wilson] on the next supernatural adventure of the Warrens."
Meanwhile, Michael has revealed he is looking forward to working with James on the new movie.
He shared: "I am a huge fan of the ‘Conjuring’ films.
"The movies are the rare combination that deliver both tremendous heart and awesome scares. It is both a total thrill and absolute honour to be working with James and the gang at New Line again."
‘The Conjuring’ franchise has already proven to be a huge box-office success and the latest spin-off film, ‘The Nun’ – which was released earlier this year – recently became the highest-grossing film in the series to date.
