James Sutton would love villainous Hollyoaks role

James Sutton would love to play a ‘Hollyoaks’ villain like Warren Fox.
The 37-year-old actor – who first appeared as John Paul McQueen in 2006 – admitted he would relish the chance to take on a very different role having missed out on "a bad guy" performance so far in his career, and name dropped Jamie Lomas’ evil alter ego as he ideal part.
Asked which of the soap’s character he’s like to play for a day, he told Inside Soap: "I’d probably play Warren Fox, or just one of the villains, one of the bad guys.
"I haven’t played a bad guy, and John Paul hasn’t had a dark side to him… yet!
"Maybe he will in the future, but all actors like playing bad characters because it’s just delicious. You can get away with all kinds of things if you’re playing a villain."
James enjoyed two spells as John Paul – from 2006 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2017 – before returning for his current stint last year, and he’s glad for the variety of storylines his character has been involved in.
Quizzed on his favourite plot, he said: "I have to go over 11 years of telly now! From an actor’s point of view, it’d be the coming-out storyline we did years ago, or the male rape story.
"Simply because – after all of the work, preparation, research and time that goes into it – when it comes together, it’s really rewarding.
"But we’re also had so much silliness and fun in the McQueen family too."
The soap star was also asked which of his on-screen family he’d likoe to bring back for another run on ‘Hollyoaks’.
He revealed: "I loved working with Leah Backett, who played Tina – she was a delight. And Mandip Gill (Phobe).
"She might come back when she’s finished in the TARDIS [on ‘Doctor Who’]. Never mind, actually, her and Leah’s ‘Hollyoaks’ characters both died!"
