James May has ‘no desire’ to meet with Richard Hammond or Jeremy Clarkson outside work

James May has "no real desire" to spend any more time with Richard Hammond or Jeremy Clarkson then he has to.
The 54-year-old television presenter loves being with his co-presenters when he is working on ‘The Grand Tour’ but revealed that they all prefer to go their separate ways when they’ve finished work for the day because they spend so much time together when filming.
He said: "Outside of work, we don’t meet up. It’s very rare. I’ve spent so much time with them by the time we get to the end of work. I have no real desire spend any more with them! I have other friends and a woman waiting at home who loves me. And that’s preferable!"
Richard was involved in a horrific crash earlier this year and James has revealed how "alarming" it was seeing his friend in the car when it burst into flames.
He added: "After he had been pulled out of it. It [the car] caught fire. He had the crash after the finish line so nobody was really filming that bit as that’s not normally where anything interesting happens. There’s enough to see that it’s alarming. I was the last man standing. He [Richard] couldn’t and Jeremy was lying on a bed somewhere on a ventilator [with pneumonia]."
James and his co-presenters are known worldwide but he was shocked when he was recognised by a market stall owner in the middle of the desert.
Recalling how he was recognised during a visit to the Iraqi desert, he told ITV’s This Morning: "I never really get used to it [fame] because I sort of forget. When I’m sitting at home, I don’t think, ‘Oh I’m on a global television show’. It’s [being noticed has] happened in much more surprising places then New York. It happened right in the middle of the desert in Iraq where this roadside seller, he said to me, ‘Welcome to my country, Mr Slowly’. There was no reason why he wouldn’t know but he didn’t have any electricity or anything … It’s very flattering but it’s also very disturbing."
