James Corden wants to make a ‘Gavin & Stacey’ special.
The 37-year-old comedian is desperate to join forces with his former co-writer Ruth Jones again and create a one-off episode of the well-loved sitcom, which ran from 2007 until 2010, after he recently reprised his role as dopey builder and decorator Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith for a Sports Relief sketch.
He told The Daily Star newspaper: "I’d love to do another ‘Gavin & Stacey’ special. It’s just finding the time. My favourite was the last Christmas special. Writing that with Ruth for two weeks was just brilliant, so I’d love to do another one."
And it seems Ruth – who played larger-than-life Vanessa Shannesa ‘Nessa’ Jenkins in the show – is on the same wavelength as she admitted last year that she is hoping to reunite with James and pen a film version of the sitcom.
She said at the time: "We haven’t any concrete plans [to write together again] but we will at some stage. It might be a ‘Gavin & Stacey special or it might be a film."
The popular programme follows the long-distance relationship of Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) and Stacey Shipman (Joanna Page) as they attempt to keep their love alive while living at opposite ends of the country.
The show came to an end six years ago after Smithy and Nessa got together and Gavin and Stacey announced they were having a baby but the finale didn’t go down too well with viewers and more than 14,000 signed a petition to get it revived for another series.
