James Corden lines up Christmas number one single

James Corden could receive the coveted Christmas number one single as he has recorded a festive track for a UK supermarket advert.
The 38-year-old television presenter is known for belting out chart hits with his celebrity guests in the Carpool Karaoke segment of his American chat show ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’, but now the star has decided to go it alone, adding his vocals to the soundtrack to Sainsbury’s festive offering.
The catchy tune – named ‘The Greatest Gift for Christmas is Me’ – could well go head-to-head against the Vaults’ cover version of Randy Crawford’s classic ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’, which features in the rival advert for department store John Lewis.
Sainsbury’s animated advert sees Dave, a hard-working family man, struggling to juggle his work and family lives during the hectic Christmas period, and being stuck for a present to give his family.
When he finds a gingerbread version of himself that his family have made, Dave decides to head back to the toy store where he works and makes toy versions of himself to help him be in several places at once, so he can spend Christmas with his family.
Spin-off merchandise from the advert – such as gingerbread Dave’s and animation kits – will also be sold, and proceeds will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital, a children’s hospital in the UK.
Charity boss Tim Johnson said: "At Christmas, time spent with the people you love is precious. For the families of patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital who are unable to go home at Christmas, this is particularly true.
"More than half of the patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital live outside of London, and many are hours away from home. The money raised will enable us to help more families be together when they really need to be, by providing dedicated accommodation close to the hospital."
