James Burrows has quit ‘Coronation Street’.
The 28-year-old actor – who joined the cobbles two years ago – is said to have already filmed his final scenes as Doctor Ali Neeson, with his soap exit set to air next month on ITV.
An insider told The Sun Online: "Ali’s been one of the most popular characters on the cobbles but the time has come for him to leave.
"He’s at war with murderer Gary Windass over ex Maria Connor and the pair will be involved in a brutal showdown on the cobbles soon.
"Viewers will be worried Gary will claim his third victim."
However, the report adds that ‘Corrie’ bosses will leave the door open for a potential return in the future.
The source added: "It’s not the last fans will see of Ali in Weatherfield."
Meanwhile, the publication noted a show spokeswoman has confirmed James’ upcoming exit.
His career decision comes after the soap star got engaged last summer when he popped the question to his significant other Sophie Coates – with whom he has 10-month-old daughter Betty – in the middle of Lake Windermere in the Lake District.
He wrote on Instagram at the time: "So at the weekend I asked my best friend to be my wife on a boat in the middle of the lake and she said yes and it’s made me one very happy man #lakedistrict #engaged #happy (sic)"
Sophie revealed she couldn’t believe it when James asked her, so much so she said "are you joking" around 17 times.
She wrote: "I said yes! Not really, I said "are you joking" about 17 times and then I said yes (sic)"
