James and Ola Jordan’s baby rushed to hospital for tests

James and Ola Jordan’s newborn baby was rushed to hospital this week when she was struggling to breath.
The new parents – who welcomed daughter Ella into the world in February – were concerned on Tuesday night (21.04.20) when their bundle of joy was "really unsettled" after not sleeping for a couple of days, and she was finding it hard to swallow properly.
After speaking to Ola’s sister – a pharmacist – they decided to call the NHS helpline, despite initially not wanting to trouble the National Health Service during the coronavirus pandemic.
Writing in their HELLO! column, James said: "She hasn’t slept for the last couple of days. She’s been really unsettled, really miserable.
"Moving a lot, kicking her legs and flailing her arms and struggling to clear her mouth.
"She had a lot of saliva in her mouth and it was almost like she couldn’t swallow properly. It was like she was choking on her own saliva."
Ola described the situation as "heartbreaking", and her husband revealed they had to take her into hospital for some tests.
He explained: "We called 111 and told them what was going on and they sent an ambulance out. Then the paramedics said, ‘Right, we’ll take her in and get someone to have a look at her.’
"They took her into hospital and a paediatrician saw her very quickly. We were probably there about an hour and a half.
"They did some blood tests on her which she hated, checked her heart and her breathing. It came back that she had a bad case of reflux."
The couple admitted the situation was "terrifying" for them as new parents, and James encouraged everyone to still seek help if necessary despite the current health crisis.
James added: "We put our clothes straight in the wash basket, we put alcohol on our hands, you just do everything you can. But at the end of the day, if you’re that worried, you still have to go in."
