‘Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd has never cried at a script before – except when he read Kylie Platt’s tragic death.
The 28-year-old actor has spent 16 years of his life on the long-running soap but has admitted he’s never once been reduced to an emotional state reading a storyline until he recently found out how his on-screen wife – played by Paula Lane – meets her devastating end next week.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Thursday (07.07.16), he said: "They [the bosses] did tell me actually when the scripts were coming out, ‘They’re very harrowing and very emotional’ and I read them and I’ve never read any scenes before and cried unless I was reading them and I was meant to be crying. [So Kylie’s death scenes were the first time I’ve cried at a script]."
And the hunky star – who portrays hairdresser David Platt in the soap – found the scenes even harder to film and couldn’t stop himself from bawling his eyes out on camera.
He explained: "She [Paula] will be missed, not because she’s Paula, because David and Kylie have this strong relationship and filming the scenes when she does die, me and Paula were crying all the way through and we physically couldn’t stop. They’re so harrowing."
Meanwhile, Paula, who has played the feisty nail technician for six years, announced she was leaving the show in February in order to have her second child and focus on her family but she didn’t realise bosses were planning to kill her off.
Her alter-ego’s emotional exit will hit television screens next Friday (15.07.16) but the cause of her death will be left unknown for many months as the storyline unfolds.
