J.J. Abrams would love to see a Knights of Ren ‘Star Wars’ anthology movie made.
The ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ director is pleased to see Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has given the go ahead to spin-off films ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ and a Han Solo project, but he is keen to see a motion picture about the dark side organisation’s back story.
He told Collider: "I gotta say Kathy Kennedy, who’s running it all, she seems to be pushing all the right buttons.
"There isn’t something that I’d love to see – I guess the one thing I would say is there’s a Knights of Ren story that I think would be pretty cool to tell."
The Knights of Ren operated under the command of Supreme Leader Snoke and also included Kylo Ren, a villain played by Adam Driver in ‘The Force Awakens’.
The group have been around since the Galactic Civil War and were used by Snoke as a dark side pawn against the First Order.
Rey – played by Daisy Ridley in ‘The Force Awakens’ – saw them in a vision.
Earlier this week, Alden Ehrenreich was confirmed for the young Han Solo role in the upcoming spin-off film, which is thought to be titled ‘Han Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and will explore the iconic character’s back story.
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ will take place around 19 years after ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ when Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) was badly burned in a battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) leading to him needing the life-saving armour forever.
Kennedy recently confirmed Darth Vader will appear in the motion picture, which is scheduled for a December release, and James Earl Jones, 85, will reprise his role as the voice of the character.
She said: "I think we can talk about Vader…
"He will be in the movie sparingly. But at a key, strategic moment, he’s going to loom large."
Felicity Jones will play the lead role of Rebellion fighter Jyn Erso, and Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk will also star in the movie.
