‘It’s good for fans’: Blur guitarist Graham Coxon is thrilled about the Oasis reunion

Graham Coxon is pleased that Oasis are reuniting.

The Blur guitarist thinks it is “good for fans” that their old rivals Noel and Liam Gallagher have put their differences aside to follow the ‘Parklife’ band by playing gigs at Wembley Stadium.

Graham told The Sun newspaper: “It’s good for them and it’s good for fans. I’ve been saying, ‘Just do it’.”

The 55-year-old musician crossed paths with Noel this summer as his band The Waeve – in which he features with partner Rose Elinor Dougall – were on the same festival bill together but he insists that he had no influence on the Oasis reunion.

Asked if he had discussed the matter with Noel, Graham said: “God no, I wouldn’t have talked to him about that and it’s not really my business. I don’t know him well enough to say that.

“But hopefully it’s a genuine reunion because some bands break up and don’t get that chance again.”

Blur are on hiatus following the success of their chart-topping album ‘The Ballad of Darren’ last year and Coxon explained that the ‘Country House’ rockers – which also include frontman Damon Albarn, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree – require a “shared experience” to get back together once more.

He said: “Each time we get together, there needs to be a shared experience like making a record, otherwise there’s no point in doing it for us.

“That involves a hell of a lot more work and stress though!”

Graham added: “And we all feel the need to go out and do our own things.”

Blur played two successful shows at Wembley last year and the guitarist described the experience as “surreal”.

He said: “It was quite surreal just how well it all went and how relaxed it all felt.

“We had a lot more people working on Blur machinery than The Waeve’s, so I didn’t have to worry about an awful lot.

“I just had to show up, play guitar and not make too much of an idiot of myself – oh, and not hurt myself!”
