‘The Inbetweeners’ star James Buckley nearly died in a filming mishap during the ‘Field Trip’ episode.
The infamous scenes from the second series of the hit E4 comedy saw the actor’s alter ego Jay Cartwright set of a flare, and it nearly took a horrible turn when James didn’t properly listen to instructions while he was on a boat with co-stars Blake Harrison, Simon Bird and Joe Thomas.
Speaking in the upcoming ‘The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited’ special, Blake said: "He genuinely could have died.
"He looked down the barrel of it before it goes off and we were told don’t ever do that because if it goes off, it has the force of a grenade.
"So when James does that and half a second later it comes out, that’s how close we were to recasting."
It wasn’t the only near death experience for the show though, as James’ on-screen dad Terry – played by David Schaal – also had a tough time shooting scenes for the ‘Caravan Club’ episode during series one.
Reflecting on the cold campsite washroom where he filmed, the actor added: ""I had to get half-naked, it was freezing cold and I had to p*** and fart though the whole scene while my c**k was shrivelled to the size of an acorn.
"It was so cold I had a car crash on the way home because I went hot, cold, hot, cold and I fell asleep at the wheel."
The two hour special is set to celebrate all three TV series and both movies with behind the scenes footage, unheard stories and contributions from celebrity fans.
The programme will be the first time the four stars have appeared on the small screen together since the final episode ‘The Camping Trip’ in 2010.
It will also rank the show’s funniest ever moments, including categories like Best Sex Scene and Best Ever Moment.
‘The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited’ will air tomorrow (01.01.19) at 9pm on Channel 4.
