I’m A Celebrity bosses ‘hold crisis talks to determine if 2020 series can go ahead’

‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ bosses have held crisis talks to determine whether the show can still go ahead this year.

This year’s series of the popular ITV programme – which is filmed in Australia – is in doubt after the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc around the world, and bosses are thought to be exploring the possibility of employing a mainly Australian workforce if the show does get the green light.

A source said: "’I’m A Celebrity’ is six months away but bosses are holding meetings about how they can ensure it still goes ahead in the current climate.

"A raft of measures are being looked at.

"One of the most recent plans was to employ a crew that is 95 per cent made up of Australian workers to overcome the issues surrounding flying to different countries and the quarantine restrictions."

While ITV make the "safety and welfare" of their teams their number one priority, it is thought they will do "everything possible" to try to get the show – which is hosted by Ant and Dec – on this year.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: "It’s such a ratings hit, so they’ll do everything possible to make sure it goes on air.

"But the safety and welfare of their teams is the priority at all times."

ITV admitted it was too early to discuss their plans.

If the show does go ahead this year, then ‘Coronation Street’ actress Beverley Callard could be among the stars set to enter the jungle.

Last month, it was reported the ‘Corrie’ legend – who plays Liz McDonald – had agreed to take part in this year’s series.

Other people rumoured to be part of the potential line-up are ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ cheat Charles Ingram, former ‘The One Show’ host Matt Baker, ex-footballer Eric Cantona and dancer AJ Pritchard.
