Iain Lee slams own show

Iain Lee branded his own radio show "s**t" and admitted only his debts have stopped him quitting in an on-air rant on Tuesday (27.11.18).
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ contestant moaned about his declining number of callers to his ‘Late Night Alternative’ programme on TalkRADIO and blasted the lack of originality, suggesting the 10pm-1am slot would do better with someone else at the helm.
He said: "I don’t know what to do. 24 minutes in, I don’t know where to take it. No-one’s phoning in. I’ll tell you what. I’ve been so close recently to quitting this job.
"So close to quitting it, because I just feel I am repeating the same old s**t that we’ve been doing for years and it’s not going anywhere.
"We’re getting the same old callers, it’s great that you guys call in. It feels like the same handful of people who are calling.
"We’ve got Alan, we’ve got Nigel, we’ve got Alistair, we’ve got the same five six people calling in for three years, which is great.
"But I feel I have extracted as much as I can from that, from them, I don’t feel that we’re doing anything different, or unique or new .
"I listen to all the other radio stations that do phone-ins and this doesn’t fit in with anything.
"Alistair’s calling in now, I don’t know why, it’s probably to have a go at me.
And Iain blamed the cost of his divorce from wife Helena as the reason why he can’t quit.
He continued: "I swear to god, if I wasn’t up to my eyeballs in debt and didn’t have to pay a huge amount of money every month for my divorce and for my house I’d quit because it feels like we’re just treading water.
"I swear to god if I didn’t have to pay three grand every month I would quit because this is not fun for anybody.
"It feels like there’s nothing new, I’ve run out of ideas."
The 45-year-old comic went on to suggest another presenter should take over.
He continued: I’ve run out of ideas. This can’t be fun for the listener, our listening figures are the lowest they have ever been.
"So the difference that I’m trying to do is obviously not working so we might as well let someone else come in."
But his co-host, Katherine Boyle, tried to offer some reassurance.
She replied: "Well you say that but last week there were a couple of nights when you said it was great, we had a really good time we had fun.
"We’ve had a really good run. You get so disheartened when we have a slight lull because compared to busy nights, it makes a difference."
