Nadine Mulkerrin says her ‘Hollyoaks’ exit plot is "quite fitting" because there are comparisons to her first major storyline.
The 26-year-old star will depart her role as Cleo McQueen in the Channel 4 soap to go on maternity leave, and she is excited about her exit storyline, which will see her boyfriend Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) grow closer to Scott Drinkwell’s (Ross Adams) drag alter-ego Anita Tinkle.
The plot is similar to her initial storyline when her love interest Harry Thompson – who was played by Parry Glasspool – struggled with his sexuality while they were together.
She said: "This is not Cleo’s first boyfriend to secretly like men. She went through a similar thing with Harry. That was my first storyline in the show, so it’s quite fitting that this will be my last one before I go out for maternity leave!
"I’m glad the other person in the love triangle is Scott, because he’s a character who you really root for as well. Cleo and Scott can never catch a break. Hopefully they won’t fall out, as I don’t want them to."
Nadine is also hopeful the LGBTQ+ community will approve of the storyline.
She added to Digital Spy: "I definitely think the story will be explored sensitively.
"We want the LGBTQ+ community to like it, so it will be told in a way that’s respectful."
Nadine is expecting her first child with her boyfriend and ‘Hollyoaks’ co-star Rory Douglas-Speed (Joel Dexter), who announced the news ahead of the British Soap Awards in June.
He wrote on Instagram: "That’s us THREE ready for the @thebritishsoapawards (sic)"
Nadine shared the same picture with an identical caption.
The post was also shared on ‘Hollyoaks’ official Instagram account, captioning it "BEST. NEWS. EVER. (sic)"
