Henry Cavill: Justice League isn’t light

Henry Cavill thinks calling ‘Justice League’ "light" would be "an injustice".
The 34-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as Clark Kent and his crime fighting alter-ego Superman when the DC Extended Universe ensemble movie hits cinemas later this month, and as said that whilst the feature has some comedic moments, it would be wrong to label it as light-hearted, as the overall tone is still "serious".
He said: "The tone of the film – I’m not going to say it is light, because that would be doing it an injustice. It has a serious scenario with moments of humour and lightness peppered throughout."
Henry then added that the humour in the movie is similar to "gallows humour", in that the characters are making light of situations that would otherwise be "bad".
Speaking to Disney Insider, Henry continued: "When people are in bad situations, gallows humour does come into effect. Like guys in the armed forces, a lot of them have really bizarre senses of humour, and it gets [them] through, and we have those. We have those in this movie."
The star’s comments come after DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns insisted the movie was "hopeful and optimistic", following the large amounts of negative criticism aimed at preceding film ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
He said: "Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop."
‘Justice League’ hits cinemas on November 16, and will also star Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ciarán Hinds and villain Steppenwolf.
