Heath Ledger’s parents are going to meet Michelle Williams’ new husband.
The ‘My Week With Marilyn’ actress wed Phil Elverum in a secret ceremony in June and Kim and Sally Ledger – whose son tragically died from an accidental overdose 10 years ago – are looking forward to catching up with the couple when they visit their 12-year-old granddaughter in New York soon.
Kim told Us Weekly magazine: "We’re going to see [Matilda] in New York next week. So we’ll be there a few days and see how she’s grown. She seems to have grown pretty tall.
"[Michelle is] very private and I don’t really like to make too many comments about her. But we are very happy [for her]."
Sally added: "We get to meet him as well. Michelle’s very low-key. We’re all pretty low-key."
Sally and Kim think Matilda has a strong resemblance to ‘The Dark Knight’ actor – who split from Michelle months before he passed away – and praised the way she’s been raised by the former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star.
Kim said: "We won’t see the full effect of that for a number of years, I’m sure. Michelle has done a great job as a single mom to bring her up, but she kept it fairly low-key everywhere, so really expressing herself, that’ll all come out in time.
"She’s got his beautiful flowing limbs, and a lot of his mannerisms, and that his smile. … It’s quite incredible, isn’t it?"
Michelle spoke about her marriage in an interview with Vanity Fair in July, in which she said the Mount Eerie musician was unlike "anybody else" she’d ever met before.
She said: "I never gave up on love. I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.
"Obviously I’ve never once in my life talked about a relationship. But Phil isn’t anyone else. And that’s worth something. Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."
