Halsey’s new LP reflects her ‘vomiting months of psychoanalysis’

Halsey’s heartbreak album is the result of her "vomiting months of psychoanalysis" about her ex-boyfriend.
The 22-year-old American singer/songwriter – real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane – has revealed the inspiration behind her follow-up to her 2015 debut ‘Badlands’ was spilling all of the feelings she had bottled up about the collapse of her previous relationship.
Speaking about ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom’ in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, she explained: "I’m a purger. I bottle everything up and purge it all out of me. That’s why I write so quickly. It’s like I’m vomiting months of psychoanalysis."
The ‘Closer’ hitmaker says while she was making the album she was going through the commotion of the end of her relationship and it helped her rediscover who she is as a person.
She said: "The whole reason you make a record, is to figure stuff out about yourself.
"I had killed off a version of myself just so we could make our love work. Sometimes you’re in a relationship for so long and you become a different person. You lose yourself because you change for that person.
"I put the seal on that relationship and fully purged myself of the feelings for that person at the same time as I finished my record."
Halsey took to Twitter on March 7 to tell her 4 million fans that her new album would be out in June.
She uploaded a topless photo of herself holding a rose over her shoulder and wrote: "I’m pleased to announce my upcoming album, this june, is titled: hopeless fountain kingdom. see you soon (sic)"
When fans asked whether the topless picture, which accompanied the announcement was her album cover, she replied: "Nope! When I’m ready for you to have the album cover, I’m gonna make you find it (sic)".
Most people will recognise Halsey for her vocals on The Chainsmokers’ smash hit ‘Closer’.
In the run up to her new music announcement, Halsey has been dropping various hints – including having invited 100 fans to a London church in February to get a taste of what ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom’ will sound like.
The lucky group heard four of her new tracks of which are set to feature on the upcoming album.
She also previously hinted on Twitter "There are big things coming. And I didn’t hold anything back."
