Gwendoline Christie has joined the cast of ‘Top of the Lake’.
The 37-year-old British actress will star opposite Elisabeth Moss in the second TV series of the mystery drama made by BBC Two and SundanceTV, Entertainment Weekly has reported.
The new show will be set four years after the season one finale,
and will start with Moss as Detective Robin Griffin investigating the death of an unidentified Asian girl whose body washes up on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
It is not yet known who Christie will play but her character will be significant in the plot.
Christie – who plays warrior Brienne of Tarth on ‘Game of Thrones’ – will be joined by fellow newcomers ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ David Dencik, ‘Beautiful Creatures’ actress Alice Englert and ‘The Daughter’ star Ewen Leslie.
Jane Campion is returning to direct with Ariel Kleiman and is a co-writer with Gerard Lee. ‘Top of the Lake’ returns to TV screens in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand in 2017.
Meanwhile, Christie is currently shooting ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ in which she is reprising her role as First Order stormtrooper commander Captain Phasma.
