Gwen Stefani felt like she was "dying" when her marriage broke down.
The 46-year-old singer has poured out her feelings following her split from ex-husband Gavin Rossdale in the lyrics of her third studio album, ‘This Is What the Truth Feels Like’, but admits she didn’t feel like making another record at first, she just wanted to "not die".
She said: "I wasn’t thinking. I was feeling and I was dying. And then I was just like, ‘You can’t go down like this! You have to turn this into music. You have to try, at least.’ I was so embarrassed by just everything. I just didn’t want to be that person that just went down after all of that.
"I didn’t want to make a record: I just wanted to not die. That’s it. The fact that now I have a record and people are hearing it, it just blows my mind."
Gwen – who has three kids, Kingston, nine, Zuma, six, and two-year-old Apollo with Gavin – admits the creative process on her latest record was a blur because she was "heartbroken" after splitting from the Bush rocker last August.
The blonde beauty – who is now dating singer Blake Shelton – added to GQ magazine: "I just had my heart broken and just wrote these songs. It was crazy. I don’t even know how it happened. I remember during times when I couldn’t write anything, thinking, ‘How did I do that?’
"It’s been such a whirlwind doing a record during the craziest, most unbelievable time in my life. Normal people, in real life, we don’t talk to people we don’t even know about personal things! It’s such a weird process. I’ve done it half of my life since I’ve been in a band."
