Guy Pearce is in talks to star alongside Johnny Depp in ‘Black Mass’.
The ‘Iron Man 3’ actor is negotiating the role of Whitey Bulger’s brother in the forthcoming drama, while ‘The Lone Ranger’ actor is tipped to star as the Boston crime kingpin-turned-fugitive who the film is based on, according to Variety.com.
‘The Great Gatsby’ actor Joel Edgerton had been slated to star as a crooked FBI agent, John Connolly, who was tasked with bringing down Bulger but aided him in his disappearance.
‘Out of the Furnace’ director Scott Cooper will helm the project, replacing Barry Levinson, who had previously believed to be in line to direct.
Besides being a crime boss, Bulger was also an FBI informant who used this status as a way to eliminate criminal competition.
After being tipped off by a childhood friend who worked for the FBI in the early 2000s about the feds being on to him, Bulger went on the run, living with his girlfriend in a Santa Monica apartment building, and was not caught until 2011.
