Guest list confirmed for Prince Philip’s funeral

The guest list for Prince Philip’s funeral has been confirmed.

Queen Elizabeth has had to make some “very difficult decisions” about who could attend the 3pm service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday (17.04.21) because of coronavirus restrictions.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “At its heart it is still a family event. We are following the COVID guidelines.

“There was a limit on who could be invited as a guest and Her Majesty wanted to ensure that all branches of the duke’s family were there, and had to make some very difficult decisions about who would be there.

“For those that unfortunately can’t be there, I’m sure they will be making their own private arrangements about how they commemorate the duke, and indeed celebrate the duke.”

The Duke of Edinburgh’s four children – Princes Charles, Andrew, Edward and Princess Anne – will be joined by his grandsons Prince William and Harry in following the late royal’s Land Rover hearse in a procession to the chapel.

The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Windsor, who will lead the service, are not included in the 30.

Other guests include Charles’ wife, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duchess of Cambridge, and all of Philip’s grandchildren and their spouses, except for Harry’s wife, Duchess Meghan, who has been advised to stay in the US as she’s pregnant with the couple’s second child.

The Queen will travel to the chapel in a state Bentley, but will be seated alone once inside to adhere to social distancing regulations.

Philip’s great-grandchildren will not be present as they are too young.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully on April 9, at the age of 99, at Windsor Castle.
