Great British Bake Off gets Christmas specials

‘Great British Bake Off’ is set to get two Christmas specials.
The tummy-gurgling baking show – fronted by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood – will return later this year for two episodes of festive fun as four contestants attempt to whip up a selection of winter goodies such as Yule logs and Christmas fruitcake in a series of challenges.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the festive spin-offs will replace the BBC’s usual annual ‘Christmas Masterclass’ but will still be presented by belly-laughing duo Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.
Meanwhile, the future of ‘GBBO’, which airs on BBC, currently hangs in the balance as it’s at risk of being poached by another channel.
A source said previously: "It’s no surprise all the broadcasters want a chance at landing ‘Bake Off’. It really would be a fantastic fit for Channel 4. But if you were Sky or ITV why wouldn’t you want the most-watched show on telly?"
The BBC’s three-year deal with makers Love Productions runs out after the current summer series and BBC TV Channels Controller Charlotte Moore, is reportedly involved in talks to keep the show at the channel.
However, if ‘GBBO’ was poached, it would have to remain off air until 2018, due to a clause in the BBC’s contract.
