Generation Game revival reduced to two episodes

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins’ ‘Generation Game’ revival has been reduced to two episodes by BBC bosses.
The popular presenting duo – who are, perhaps, best known for their work on ‘The Great British Bake Off’ – are poised to front the much-anticipated return of the iconic game show, but their bosses at the corporation have reportedly only decided to screen two of the four episodes they’ve filmed because they fear it will flop.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "The BBC had announced four programmes, but when they saw what had been taped could only realistically air two."
However, a spokesperson for the broadcaster has insisted that it’s not unusual for the length of a series to change during the production.
The spokesperson explained: "During the production process it’s not unusual for a new series to change length as the format evolves, and we’ve got a brilliant show for audiences on BBC One this Spring."
The report comes shortly after it was confirmed that Basil Brush is to make his TV comeback on the rebooted version of ‘The Generation Game’.
The children’s character – who appeared on ‘The Chase’ a few months ago – was scheduled to appear in all of the new episodes, which are to be aired later this year.
Looking forward to the Basil’s appearance, puppeteer Michael Winsor said: "It’s top secret at the moment. We are doing pop-ups to surprise Mel and Sue.
"We did one episode and he was such a success we ended up doing four."
He added: "They want us back on Saturday nights. We want to get the family together watching again. We’re fed up with ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘Pointless’."
