Gavin Rossdale hopes The Voice gig will boost Bush’s album sales

Gavin Rossdale hopes ‘The Voice UK’ will boost his band Bush’s album sales.
The 51-year-old rocker – who is on the judging panel with Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson – has admitted that one of the reasons he was keen to take on the coaching role on the ITV talent show was so he could build up some memento ahead of the release of the rock group’s long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s ‘Man on the Run’.
Asked if he signed up to the show to help his own music career – like former judge Ricky Wilson admitted to – he said: "Of course. It would be disingenuous to say it’s not self-serving as well.
"Maroon 5 weren’t the band they are now when Adam Levine started on ‘The Voice’ in America."
However, the hunky singer says seeing contestants through the competition and realising their dreams gives him the biggest satisfaction.
He added: "Aside from that, when you get involved in the show, and I mentored on the show in America, what takes you by surprise is when you meet the contestants who dream of being singers and getting on the show is the biggest thing that’s happened to them.
"It ceases to be about you, it becomes about the process of watching the singer’s blossom.
"When you give your life to music and then you get the chance to give back to people who are coming up, it’s a luxury."
Gavin – who was previously married to Gwen Stefani – moved back to the UK with the intention of finding the first British "superstar" and to help them have a successful career.
Asked why he took on the job, he told the Metro newspaper: "I thought it would be interesting to find a superstar in England.
"’The Voice’ around the world hasn’t managed to produce anyone, so It’s a challenge.
"And I wanted to be back in England – It gives a different slant to my already manic life."
‘The Voice UK’ continues on ITV on Saturday (21.01.17).
