Gary Oldman to star in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy 2

Gary Oldman will reprise his role as George Smiley in ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy 2’.
The acclaimed actor, whose impressive career includes credits in ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, ‘Air Force One’, the ‘Harry Potter’ movies and ‘Hannibal’, played the British master spy who was forced out of retirement in the original movie and was nominated for an Oscar for his efforts.
Speaking about the sequel, he confirmed his role and revealed: "Well, I am back. We are in discussion. There is a script, but I don’t know when we will shoot."
‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ is set in 1970s London and starred Colin Firth as Bill Haydon, John Hurt as Control – who is the head of MI6 – Simon McBurney as Undersecretary Oliver Lacon, Benedict Cumberbatch as Peter Guillam, Tom Hardy as Ricki Tarr and Toby Jones as Alleline.
The Cold War espionage thriller was based on John le Carré’s 1974 novel of the same name and followed the hunt for a Soviet double agent at the top of the British secret service.
The sequel will be based on Le Carré’s third novel in the Karla Trilogy entitled ‘Smiley’s People’, which was also made into a 1982 mini-series that starred Alec Guinness.
The plot sees Undersecretary Lacon once again call on Oldman’s Smiley to take down a Soviet Intelligence Officer who is trying to enter Europe and who is Smiley’s biggest adversary.
Speaking about the part, Oldman admitted he enjoyed playing Smiley but reprising the role terrifies him.
He told the New York Daily News newspaper: "I do miss George, but oh, no, to come back is terrifying because it’s got to be better."
