Gary Lineker donates salary to the British Red Cross

Gary Lineker had donated two months of his salary to the British Red Cross to aid the fight against coronavirus.
The ‘Match of the Day’ pundit admitted he feels "incredibly fortunate" to be able to make the gesture, and encouraged others to join in by giving what they can.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday (02.04.20), he wrote: "Decided to donate a couple of months’ salary to @BritishRedCross who are doing vital work for those most vulnerable during the Coronavirus crisis.
"Feel incredibly fortunate to be able to do this. If you’d like to join in, it’d be greatly appreciated."
The post contains a link to a JustGiving page set up by the retired England footballer which invites others to make a donation to the British Red Cross.
A message on the page reads: "I’m donating £140,000 to the British Red Cross emergency response to the Coronavirus crisis in the UK.
"Join me to raise £1,000,000 so they can continue to reach the the most vulnerable, and ensure no-one falls through the gaps during this crisis.
"The British Red Cross has been working flat-out since the start of the Coronavirus outbreak to ensure those hardest-hit have the vital support they need. Whether it’s someone socially isolating who needs food or medication or a refugee now unable to feed their family."
The 59-year-old presenter – who was the BBC’s highest-paid star in 2019 – went into self-isolation earlier this week after his son George displayed coronavirus symptoms.
Gary – who also has sons Harry, Tobias and Angus, with his ex-wife Michelle Cockayne – revealed: "In self isolation as @GeorgeLineker has symptoms. They’re not the regular ones, but complete loss of sense of taste and smell. Odd these have not been pointed out much. Been nearly a week and has spent time at mine. I’ve been vigilant, hand washing/distancing but isolation it is.
"Worth being careful if you lose your sense of taste and smell. You could unknowingly have the virus. I checked all this with a doctor before sharing the information. Stay safe."
