Gangs of London’s Gareth Evans writing Christmas action thriller

‘Gangs of London’ creator Gareth Evans is working on a Christmas action thriller.

The director and screenwriter – who was the showrunner on Sky Atlantic’s hit crime drama – is looking to break into the big screen world, and he has used the ongoing coronavirus lockdown to push on with the project.

He told Den of Geek: "I started writing it probably about five months ago now. Really since being in lockdown, obviously I’ve been able to give a lot more focus to the writing of it.

"It’s an action thriller. It’s a little more mainstream than what I’ve done in the past.

"It’s set two days before Christmas, so there’s a black dark humour streak to it, as well. It should be quite fun."

Although the festive setting will automatically draw comparisons to 1988 blockbuster ‘Die Hard’, Gareth suggested it will have more in common with Shane Black’s ‘Iron Man 3’ and ‘The Nice Guys’.

The untitled project is taking up most of his time during the pandemic, and he’s keen to hit the ground running once film production resumes.

He added: "All of my energy and all of my thinking has been on the film at the moment.

"Hopefully when all of this craziness lifts and the industry kick-starts back into life, I can jump into that film then and then get that one off the ground."

Meanwhile, Gareth recently suggested ‘Gangs of London’ could be set for a second season.

He said: "Naturally, there are certain story threads that are hanging in the air a little bit by the end of the first one.

"So obviously there’s potential and space for that to continue.

"But I think it’s all it’s all a case of like, wait and see at this point. It’s a little too early in the day to kind of like, really sort of say too much about any of the any of the plans."
