Frankie Bridge helps unveil Marie Curie’s Garden of Light

Frankie Bridge has helped unveil Marie Curie’s Garden of Light.
The 28-year-old singer, who is ambassador for the charity, joined ‘Green Wing’ actor Stephen Mangan to officially open the immersive art installation at London’s Paternoster Square, which was created by renowned public artists Greyworld to mark the launch of the Great Daffodil Appeal.
Speaking about the appeal, Frankie said: "The Garden of Light is a beautiful place to reflect on the amazing work carried out by Marie Curie Nurses and to remember the people we love. I’ll be wearing my Marie Curie daffodil throughout March for all the people I have loved and to raise awareness of the work the charity does. I really hope people join me in making every daffodil count to ensure more people get the care and support they need from these incredible nurses."
The cause is particularly important to Stephen because Marie Curie nurses helped care for his parents.
He said: "I experienced first-hand the difference Marie Curie Nurses make when they cared for both my mum and later, my dad at home.
"Having the nurses there meant that we could spend time as a family, without worrying about anything else.
"The care and support they provided to both my parents and me and my sisters, made such a difference and left me with some really special memories of our last days together."
The Garden of Light features 2,100 daffodils representing each one of the Marie Curie Nurses across the UK who provide care and support to people living with a terminal illness. The daffodils will illuminate at night, symbolising the light Marie Curie Nurses bring to people in their darkest hours.
It features winding pathways for the public to walk amongst the flowers whilst they hear recordings of voices reading real-life letters sent to Marie Curie Nurses from the families of patients they’ve supported.
Visitors can also leave behind a memory of someone they love by writing a message on a petal and placing it on the ‘Memory Wall’, which over the course of the installation will form a giant daffodil made of memories. There will also be the opportunity to make a donation to Marie Curie in return for a daffodil pin.
The installation will be in London until March 12, and Edinburgh’s St. Andres Square from March 16-18. There is also a Garden of Light at Coracles in Carmarthen until 5 March.
